How to write a nomination

Six top tips that will elevate your entry

Ten minute read

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’re getting ready to enter the 2023 CrewConnect Global Awards, which will take place on Thursday 23 November 2023. We’re delighted that you’re submitting a nomination, and our judges are eager to learn more about your achievements!

We know that crafting a compelling entry can seem like a daunting task.

  • Where do you begin?
  • What are the judges looking for?
  • And, how do you make sure that your entry leaves a lasting impression for all the right reasons?

Here are our six top tips that will help you stand out and give your nomination the best chance of success.

1. Highlight achievements, not activities.

While it is important to show the work that you and your team have delivered, it’s really important that you highlight the impact clearly.

How did your efforts contribute towards your success? What impact did your achievements have on the wider industry?

Top tip: Use the “point, evidence and explain” framework as a basis for your nomination.

2. Tell a story…

While it’s important to be clear on the facts and figures, try to avoid falling into the trap of writing an entry full of bullet points.

Think about how the judges will read your nomination and the impression that you want to leave.

You want to weave in a personality that is reflective of your team and makes your entry memorable.

3. …but don’t get too caught up in the detail.

It is a careful balance between an entry that is too sparse and one that is full of fluff.

Focus on the key details and make every word count, ensuring that your entry is easy to read.

If you get it right, your entry should be clear and concise without sending the judges to sleep.

4. Focus on the U in USP

What is it that makes your team unique?

Focus on demonstrating the positive impact your team has made on the industry in a way that others may not have.

5.  Don’t forget about supporting documentation

You may only have 250 words on the nomination form, but you have the opportunity to include supporting documentation that will help paint a more complete picture.

For instance, consider testimonials and endorsements from your customers. Do you have any case studies that you can share? The more substance you have, the better.

Top tip: Our judges do not want to see sales or marketing collateral. Leave those on your desktop!

6. Proof, edit, repeat

It may sound simple, but don’t forget to do a thorough check through your nomination for grammatical errors and spelling mistakes.

Give yourself good time to review your nomination, and, if you can, get another set of eyes to glance over it too.

A lack in attention to detail can really let an otherwise outstanding entry down. Make sure you submit an entry you’re proud of!

Ready to start your entry?

On a final note – don’t forget that while writing an entry is a great chance to gain recognition, it is also a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your achievements, celebrate your successes and inspire your team.
